How to connect your wardrobe to ChatGPT
This is the short, practical one. No philosophy about AI, no thirty-item checklist. Just how you get the clothes in your cupboard into the chat you already have open, what it needs, and the three things that go wrong.

What you need first
- Any ChatGPT plan, including Free. Add it from Settings, then Plugins — on the web or in the phone app.
- A wardrobe to connect. Modebase is free to try with no card and no time limit, so you can do this before deciding whether you like it.
- About a minute.
If you are on Claude instead, it is the same idea. In Claude you add Modebase as a custom connector by URL, and custom connectors need a paid Claude plan.
The steps
- In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Plugins.
- Search for Modebase and add it.
- Sign in, and when it asks, allow actions. Allowing actions is what lets it save an outfit, log a wear or add a piece, which is half the point.
That is it. Open a new chat and ask what to wear tomorrow.
The three things that go wrong
You cannot find Modebase in Plugins
Open Settings, then Plugins, on ChatGPT on the web, and search for Modebase. The plugin store will not appear in the phone app at all, on any plan, so do the setup on a laptop.
It connects but cannot do anything
You did not allow actions when it asked. It will happily search your wardrobe and then fail to save the outfit you liked. Open Settings, then Plugins, tap Modebase, and allow actions.
It was working and now it is not
Remove Modebase and add it again from Settings, then Plugins. ChatGPT caches what a plugin can do at the moment you add it, so removing and re-adding is what makes it re-read. This also fixes the case where you were told a new feature exists and yours does not seem to have it.
If you cannot add the plugin
Every ChatGPT plan can add Modebase, including Free, on the web or the phone app — so if you do not see it, update ChatGPT to the latest version. A work or school account can have an admin who blocks third-party plugins; a personal account avoids that. If you still cannot, there is a second door: a private closet link you paste into the chat. It is less capable, because the chat can read your wardrobe but not write back to it, and it is enough to stop you describing your clothes from memory.
What changes once it is connected
The difference is not that the advice gets cleverer. It is that the advice becomes about you.
Ask for your navy skirts and you get your navy skirts, with their photographs, rather than a suggestion that a navy skirt might work. Ask what to wear to a wedding and the answer is assembled from pieces hanging in your cupboard. The outfit arrives as a picture of your real clothes laid out together, which is the part people are sceptical about until they see it.
And it goes both ways, which is the half that gets forgotten. Say you wore it and that is recorded. Say the shoes rub and that is saved onto those shoes, so it comes back every time they are considered. Ask for it to be planned for Thursday and it goes on your calendar. The conversation changes the wardrobe while you are having it, instead of evaporating when you close the tab.
